Looking for something to do this Autumn? come and learn pottery and the art of making ceramics on the wheel. This is the perfect opportunity to get a taste of pottery and build some knowledge into the world of wheel throwing. located at Jacob Lyon Pottery 5 Friesian St, Cowaramup. (Weekdays 6pm - 8pm) $399 payment locks you in for the whole 7 weeks (6 classes) for that specific day eg: Every Tuesday 6-8pm * Note the course is 6 classes as week 6 of the program is a break week to fire the kilns. Break days are 26th and 27th of may. What’s included ~ All Clay, glaze and equipment ~ All firings and finished pieces Only 6 spots available to ensure I can give you maximum attention, PM or email me to book in jacoblyonpottery@gmail.com Course Structure WEEK 1: Introduction to the wheel. Learn the 3 basic pottery forms Flatware, Bowls and Cylinders and examining the cross section of pots we make. We will also learn the basics of wedging and using a pug mill to de-air and compress clay. WEEK 2: How to modify the 3 basic pottery forms. We will learn how to reshape plates into spoon rests or make garlic graters, Learn how to turn bowls into incense holders or how to flare and twist the rim. And lastly learn how to turn cylinders from mugs into vases, learning to collar the clay top create a neck and stretch the clay to make a belly in the pot. WEEK 3: Trimming our work and attaching handles. We will learn how to smooth out the bottom and sides of our work, making our pots lighter and preventing a rocking pot. We will also learn to attach handles to our work and how to dry them to prevent uneven drying and cracking. WEEK 4: Back on the wheel learning more complex shapes, Learn to make lidded Jars, vases and at the end of the day we will have a shot at throwing a larger dinner bowl. WEEK 5: Trimming our pots. Learning to trim a foot ring in bowls, Trim lids to fit jars, as well as Attaching handles at the end. WEEK 6: BREAK WEEK. Everything needs to dry slowly to prevent cracking and then undergo the first firing in the kiln to 1000c and slowly cool to prepare the clay for glazing. WEEK 7: learn to wax, glaze and decorate your work. and how to prevent glazing disasters then off to the kiln for final firing Please read cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy
Jacobs classes tend to book out regularly, There is limited availability especially for those with large groups and people tend to book weeks/months in advance. There is also only 6 spots in Jacobs classes, and taking up a spot can result in the potential loss of another booking. For this reason: CANCELLATION REQUESTS: Cancellations are non refundable. You can pass your booking onto friends if you cannot make it. RESCHEDULE REQUESTS: Reschedule requests due to the potential loss of a larger group booking are also non refundable. however Jacob can offer a gift card priced at the same value of the initial booking, if that booking is rescheduled. eg: Michael books a class for 4 people, total cost is $200 If Michael lets me know about his need to reschedule (doesn't do a no show on the day) and books into another class for 4 people at another date, He will receive his initial $200 cost refunded In the form of a gift card to use in the shop. This can be used to finish his pots on the day or to purchase Jacobs pottery from his showroom. All reschedule (new bookings) must be made within 1 month and must be of the same value as the initial booking. SHORT COURSE NOTE: At least two people are required for the daily classes to go ahead, if I cannot obtain at least two people you will receive the option to reschedule your booking or you'll receive a refund NOTES: At least three people are required for the multi week classes to go ahead, if I cannot obtain at least three people you will receive the option to reschedule your booking or you'll receive a refund You can only reschedule your bookings once, a second attempt to reschedule will result in a 100% cancellation fee. (unless a medical emergency see to cancellation policy above for details) In rare event of a double booking a refund will be offered, Jacob does not hold liability for system errors and mistakes. LESSON POTS: The finishing process of pottery is filled with the unexpected and unknown, While small defects are common and generally do not affect the pottery, Larger defects are rare. And in the case of larger defects occurring in the finishing process of your pottery a complimentary pot will be offered in replacement to your lesson pot. This will be of the same shape/form or colour. In these situations of extreme defects it is not recommended to use your pottery for food, and to use it for decorative uses/ non food use only. (Not the case for 7 week course students unless kiln malfunction)
