Firing Service / Kiln Hire
Jacob Offers a kiln firing service for a range of potters from hobbyists to professionals. There is one kiln here at the studio which gets fired on average once a week. While there is a lot of firings your pieces may not always fit, so give 2-4 weeks to allow your pieces to get through the kiln.

Bisque Firing Cone 06 (1000c)
$10/kg
3kg minimum
1. ) All work must be bone dry before being placed on the bisque rack.
2. ) All work with closed forms (eg: donut vase) must have a hole poked in the side for moisture to escape.
3. ) All work must have Insignia on the bottom, any pot without an insignia will not be fired.
4.) All firings require payment upon collection. No shows in regards to collection or payments will result in disposal of your work and a lifetime ban from the studio.
5.) no underglaze to be placed on the base or the rim of pots. as this may transfer to other peoples work.
Glaze Firing
cone 9 (1280c)
(your own Glazes)
$10/kg (you use your own glazes)
Minimum 3kg
1. ) All work must have Insignia on the bottom, any pot without an insignia will not be fired.
2.) All Glaze and glaze combinations must be tested in my kiln via test tiles.
3.) No Glaze shall contain any toxic materials Chrome, Barium, lead etc...
4.) Your Glazes cannot interfere with other glazes (eg: chrome)
5.) Your glaze cannot damage the elements or other ares of the kiln
(eg: soda)
6.) Lustre glazes are also not permitted.
7.) All glaze must be wiped off the base of pots with a minimum of 5mm of clearance from the base of the pot. (This includes inside and outside of feet) any pots with questionable levels of cleanliness will not be fired.
8.) glazes with second layers must allow 1-2inches from the bottom of the pot to allow for runs (unless discussed otherwise with Jacob prior)
9.) This is a shared space, and while we take the upmost care in ensuring everyone's work is safe, accidents can occur. Jacob takes no liability for accidental damages caused by him or others operating in the studio.
10.) All firings require payment upon collection. No shows in regards to collection or payments will result in disposal of your work and a lifetime ban from the studio.
11.) And damage to the kiln shelfs will incur a minimum fee of $20 up to the cost of a new shelf in extreme incidences.
12.) No raw glazing. All pieces must originally be bisque fired.

(My Glazes)
$20/kg (you use my glazes)
$30/kg (I glaze and decorate your work for you)

Jacob offers alternative temperatures for those who are looking to fire at a different temperature. This includes mid fire (cone 6) and earthenware temperatures.
To do this you will need to hire the whole kiln. Whole kiln firings run at the following prices and are only available for those I deem appropriate.
